From Pinterest to Reality!

I saw this quilted sweater on Pinterest and it was instant love, so I knew I just had to recreate my own!

I used the Adult Knox pattern from Samantha Marie Designs as my base for the sweater. This pattern had the same oversized look, with raglan-style color-blocked sleeves, neck and waistbands, and sleeve cuffs just like my PInspiration, making it ideal for minimal modifications.

Instead of quilting patchwork squares

together, I used this super fun panel from J&R Edwards Textiles as a center block and then quilted this diagonal design, in complementary colors, mimicking the diagonals printed on the panel. This was a fun creative process, but very tedious!! Just be sure to make your quilt block wider than the pattern piece you intend to use with it.

Because I love a good challenge, I used the same diagonal quilting design I used on the bodice for the color-blocked portions of the sleeves. These sections are drafted in the pattern. To determine the placement for my quilt panel on the front bodice, I just aligned my bodice and sleeve pieces at the armpit and matched it with the color block sections on the sleeves.

When attaching these quilted blocks to my knit pieces, I sewed them up wrong sides together and topstitched down the seams to recreate the exposed seam detail from my PInspo. Keep in mind that wovens do not stretch around the body, so when mixing bases, ensure you have enough ease in that area for a comfortable fit. (think around the bust, across the back, in the biceps and elbows) This may mean you need to size up 1 or 2 when determining your pattern size.

The back bodice of my PInspo sweater had a fun open seam detail down the back, so instead of cutting the back bodice on the fold, I added a seam allowance and cut two separate mirrored pieces. I sewed those up wrong sides together at my added seam allowance amount, finished those seams, pressed them open and topstitched them down. I wanted to tie in the look of the finished exposed seams on the quilt blocks.

I love the look of this sweater! And with Sagittarius season just around the corner, this is sure to be a great layering piece from the end of November through December. How cute would this look with a collar folded over the neckband?!
