I am SO excited to share my latest sewing adventure with you—the Cherishing Today Companion Backpack! 🎒✨ This project was a thrilling ride from start to finish. As someone who’s still dipping my toes into the world of bag-making, I found this pattern both fun and challenging. But let me tell you, I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

I’d call this pattern perfect for advanced beginners. If you’ve dabbled in bag-making before, you’ll feel right at home. Even though I’ve only made a handful of bags, I was able to create something I truly LOVE. It did take me a bit longer because I was super focused on getting everything just right, but I’m confident that with a bit more practice, I’ll breeze through it in no time. And trust me, making a few more is definitely on my to-do list—my kids are already asking for their own!

The Companion Backpack is the ideal size for all sorts of uses—packing snacks for the park, carrying books for a day out, or even as a stylish diaper bag. Those side pockets? Perfect for bottles and sippy cups! 🍼📚
I’m head over heels for the flap design and the way it allows you to really make the bag your own. I used some fabulous canvas from Violet Snow Custom Fabric, paired it with fun faux denim vinyl from Oh So Pretty Custom Fabric, and added a splash of quilting cotton from my stash. Even though I used stable fabrics, I opted to interface my pieces to ensure the bag was sturdy enough for anything life (or my kiddos) could throw at it. And guess what? It totally lived up to my expectations!
The Magic of Assembly:
I was a bit concerned about the exposed zipper and folding the pocket pieces and straps, but once I cleared my head and revisited the instructions, everything made perfect sense. Watching the bag come together was like magic—everything just clicked into place beautifully. Cindy’s pattern is a testament to her heart and thoughtfulness in design, and I’m so grateful to have been part of this process.
